Methamphetamine Addiction

Date : October 17, 2009, 12:00 am

What is Methamphetamine Addiction?: Methamphetamine, known as meth, is one of the most addicting drugs in the world. Its use has skyrocketed in recent years and those unfortunate enough to have become addicted to it have paid a dear price. Not only does meth addiction ruin lives, but it also renders some people unrecognizable. Missing and rotting teeth, acne and emaciated figures are all indicative of meth addiction.

Signs of Methamphetamine Addiction: Individuals addicted to methamphetamine will have strong cravings for the drugs. They will often forgo eating (or at least eat minimally) and taking care of themselves. If they have children, they may begin to neglect them and fail to meet their basic needs. Meth addicts will mostly be concerned about getting high and will constantly be coming up with schemes to obtain the cash necessary to purchase more meth.

Causes of Methamphetamine Addiction: Meth is extremely addictive. Persons that use it are at a significant risk for dependency and then addiction. Users also often enjoy the way that the drug makes them feel and so want to continue to use.

Effects of Methamphetamine Addiction: The effects of meth addiction are often pronounced. Meth is well known for making someone nearly unrecognizable after only a few months of use. A person's teeth may begin to fall out. They will often lose weight and develop problem skin. Meth addiction ages a person tremendously and takes a serious toll on them physically.

Persons addicted to meth will often care about nothing else but the drug. This may mean that they stop working, cooking, forgo personal hygiene and no longer be able to take care of their children. An addict might lose their car or home because they either have quit their jobs, been fired or spend money for essentials on drugs.

Complications of Methamphetamine Addiction: Methamphetamine addiction can lead to death. Even if death does not occur, addicts still face the risk of great physical harm and transformation. Addicts' teeth often rot out, they lose their hair, drop a significant amount of weight and develop terrible acne and facial blemishes and these are just examples of the external damage. Meth use also negatively affects the internal organs.

Treatment of Methamphetamine Addiction: Methamphetamine addiction can be treated with drug rehabilitation. There are many great treatment facilities that are able to provide help and support to meth addicts. However, as with other drugs, overcoming a meth addiction can be difficult and will likely be a life long struggle.
