Magic Mushrooms

Magic mushrooms are really psilocybin mushrooms. They are a psychoactive substance that causes people to have hallucinations, though this is not always true. The effects of magic mushrooms on the body and mind will differ. Sometimes people will have special experiences where they see and hear things that are not there. However, there will be times when the mushrooms have absolutely no effect.

A high from the psilocybin mushrooms generally lasts somewhere between three and eight hours. However, that can be affected by how much a person takes, how much they weigh and their metabolism and what other drugs they had taken as well. Besides hallucinations, magic mushrooms can also effect how a person views time and so while they believe that they have been on a trip for a few minutes, a few hours could have gone by.

Magic mushrooms have been used for centuries. Often times people used them for religious or mystical purposes. The hallucinogenic effects of the mushrooms contributed to this. In modern times in the West, a reintroduction to mushroom use for purposes of getting high was made by Gordan and Valentina Wasson, when they got high from some mushrooms they found in Mexico and writing an article about it in Life Magazine. After this, the use of mushrooms and other hallucinogen plants or drugs became widespread.

Some people can build up a tolerance to magic mushrooms. However they are not physically addictive and while most people are aware of the hallucinogenic effects of the drugs, many don't know unless they have tried mushrooms the negative side effects. One may begin to vomit, become dizzy or experience nausea. This is especially true if they take too much. There is also the possibility of having a bad trip and this can result in feelings of intense fear, anxiety, stress, and distress. There is also the possibility of picking the wrong mushrooms. Some mushrooms are lethal, people have gotten them mixed up and the results were fatal.

As stated above, psilocybinp mushrooms are psychoactive and so one's experience tends to be subjective and may differ from someone else. One may also experience a "great" high one time and then experience absolutely nothing out of the ordinary the next time.
