LSD Basics

Date : October 17, 2009, 12:00 am

LSD is a hallucinogenic drug that is often referred to as a psychedelic substance.  It can be taken a number of ways but most individuals take it orally. It is possible to use LSD via blotter paper, pills, powder, liquid, sugar cubes and gelatin sheets. Some people place liquid and gel LSD into their eyes. It can also be injected.

An average dose of LSD for recreational use is often between 50 and 150 mcg.  This often can be found in a sheet of blotter paper. It typically costs between $3 and $8 to purchase at hit of LSD.  Generally, higher prices are charged at raves or clubs where people are desperate to get it.

LSD is a schedule one drug and is illegal in the United States. It is also against the law to use and possess it in many other countries as well.  Persons that are found with it, face possible jail time.

After a person has taken a hit of LSD, they may begin to hallucinate, see vivid colors and have strange thoughts.  They may become paranoid or confused. Their range of emotions may also change rapidly. They may be happy one minute and sad the next.  It can also make some individuals very reflective.  Some persons become extremely happy and giddy while on LSD, others become sad or angry. How an individual reacts to LSD will depend on a number of factors, namely how much they have taken, how they feel when they are using it and what their surroundings are.

Any time a person takes acid, there is a possibility that they will have a really bad trip. Some people become extremely frightened, feel like they are dying or going crazy and/or experience anxious feelings and thoughts.  LSD and similar psychedelics generally should not be used by persons that are experiencing emotional or mental stress and trauma, as the drugs can only make these feelings or conditions more pronounced or worse.

Those who have a history of mental illness or have family members who suffer from it may also want to avoid taking drugs such as LSD because while it may not cause mental problems it definitely can facilitate any latent ones.

LSD may not be physically addicting, however, it can be psychologically addicting.  Typically, those who stop using will not have any physical problems or withdrawals. This does not mean that quitting will be easy for those that abuse LSD. It just means that it won't be physically difficult to do so.
