LSD Addiction

Date : October 17, 2009, 12:00 am

What Is A LSD Addiction?: LSD is a hallucinogenic drug which is mostly taken orally. It is available in pill form, as powder and most often, in blotter paper. Individuals who use LSD may experience hallucinations and changes in their sensory perceptions.

Signs of LSD Addiction: A person with an addiction to LSD will likely quickly develop a tolerance to the drug, though it generally diminishes after about one week. Addicts may also suffer from tremors, hallucinations, insomnia, increased heart rate, paranoia, lowered appetite and altered moods.

Causes of LSD Addiction: LSD is not physically addicting. However, users can develop a psychological addiction to it. At first glance, this may seem less dangerous then a drug which is physically addicting. However, a psychological addiction can be just as very powerful as a physical addiction and just as difficult, if not more so,  to break. Many times, an addict's battle is in the mind.  Most drugs can be cleansed from the body within a few weeks.  However, individuals begin using drugs again because they have a psychological dependency or addiction.

Effects of LSD Addiction: Dry mouth, tremors, hallucinations, paranoia, increased tolerance, insomnia and reduced appetite are all potential effects of LSD addiction.

Complications of a LSD Addiction: Memory problems, depression, flash backs, schizophrenia and bad trips are all potential complications of a LSD addiction.  It is very difficult, however, to die from LSD toxicity or overdose, though it is possible if a person were to take massive amounts of it.

Treatment of LSD Addiction: Drug rehabilitation is often times this best way to deal with a LSD addiction. Outpatient drug rehab may work just fine.  However, it will depend on the severity of a person's addiction.  More severe dependencies are best treated in inpatient facilities.
