What is Drug Addiction?: Drug addiction affects millions of people not only in the U.S. but around the world. What starts out as recreational fun for many quickly becomes an addiction. What may have been infrequent used begins to overtake the individual. If not treated, individuals not only risk being unable to stop using but serious health problems and even death may occur. Not all problems associated with drug addiction are physical. Family break up, the inability of one to care for them selves and their family, along with money problems also plague drug addicts.
Signs of Drug Addiction: A person addicted to drugs will be unable to think of much else besides getting high or figuring out how to obtain the money too get high. An addict may exhibit the following symptoms. He or she might stop taking care of him or herself. Personal hygiene may no longer be important. They may also disappear for hours or days at time, often going on drug binges.
Causes of Drug Addiction: A person may be addicted to drugs for numerous reasons. They may initially begin using recreationally or while hanging out with friends and then find them selves hooked. Other persons may use drugs to self-medicate and instead of confronting the problems in their lives, turn to drugs to make themselves feel better.
Effects of Drug Addiction: Drug addiction is so terrible because not only does it affect the user but everyone that loves and cares for him or her. A person that is addicted to drugs will have problems physically and are at risk of death. Their family may be torn apart. They might have financial problems, trouble keeping a job and become unable to maintain important relationships.
Complications of Drug Addiction: Drug addicts are putting themselves at risk for complications every time that they use, the worst possible one being over dosing. An over dose can be fatal.

Drug Addiction Treatment: There are many great rehabilitation facilities throughout the United States that are equipped to treat individuals with drug problems.
Rehab and Recovery: The rehab process can take quite some time and is often hit and miss for many addicts. Individuals may successfully complete rehab only to begin using again. The recovery process is generally ongoing and lifelong. However, it is possible to get clean and rehabilitation is among the most effective ways to do so.
