Individuals who take cocaine often report experiencing feelings of euphoria. They may feel more alert mentally then normal, have increased energy and will be hyper stimulated. Sometimes they may feel anxious and irritable. Physically, a person's pupils might dilate. They can become flushed and their temperature may increase. The blood vessels will constrict and the heart rate and blood pressure increases.
The pleasurable rush or feeling brought on by cocaine usually lasts for around 30 minutes. Many users will continue to take hits of it in order to prolong their high. Continued use might cause a person to become paranoid, restless and irritable. Some individuals even experience hallucinations and feel disconnected from reality.
Both long-term and short term cocaine use can be very dangerous because of the potential to overdose and die. Chronic cocaine use can result in an individual having a stroke, respiratory failure, heart attack, irregular heart beat, pain the stomach and chest. As mentioned above, death is also a possibility.
A person that has been using cocaine for some time and have become addicted to it, may also experience a change in appearance. They may appear gaunt and un-kept. When a person uses cocaine, their appetite often wanes causing them to lose weight, appear unhealthy and undernourished.
